Nestled in the southwest corner of Saudi Arabia, the Asir Province (also spelled “Aseer”) is full of natural beauty just waiting to be explored!
From the Red Sea coast, border with Yemen, and stunning mountains, the Asir Province contains unbelievable natural beauty and a comparatively chilly climate compared to the rest of the kingdom, which makes it a great getaway spot.
Though in the past, this beautiful province was relatively inaccessible due to lack of infrastructure, recent investments in the area has made it more accessible to tourists. Since then, it has quickly grown into a popular tourist destination.

History & Culture of the Asir Province
The magic and difficulty of the mountains has long been a part of the Asir Province.
In fact, the word Asir means “difficult.”
Historically, this area of Saudi Arabia was meaningful for its trade routes and role as a trading center, through the village of Rijal Alma. Visitors can still appreciate this rich history today, by walking the restored trade route and appreciating its twists and turns.
The restoration was so successful that it was awarded the Prince Sultan bin Salman Prize for Preservation of Urban Heritage.
The culture of the Asir Province reflects a superhuman perseverance and devotion. Since it was largely isolated from other areas, the tribespeople of this area gave it a unique culture, which is still preserved today.
One of the most notable elements of the culture is the beautiful flower garlands, which tribesmen wear. The flower garlands bring an incredible amount of color and life to the area.
The cultural significance of this practice has grown to even greater importance in recent years with the development of an annual Flowerman Festival that celebrates the practice.
The history and culture don’t stop there either!
They stretch all the way to the capital city of the Asir Province, Abha, which is a must-visit location as well!
